El Castell de Guadalest
Guadalest is a great day out, a tranquil medieval town set up in the mountains with the most stunning views over the region. You will find many gift shops selling a vast variety of goods from clothes, handbags, gifts, local produce such as honey, olive oil almonds and walnuts (when In Season) and many other items.
The main Guadalest museum is a must, this was a house which used to belong to a noble family and was build in the 17th Century and they have kept the house as it was back in the day, very interesting. Although there is a small entrance fee is well worth it, as you can take a slow walk right to the top and absorb the breathtaking views of the reservoir and the backdrop of the mountains.
There are also 2 smaller museums which are quite interesting, a whole house with many artefacts from the medieval times and you can get a good insight on how they used to live.
The drive up there alone is a pleasure through the winding roads with the pine forests and almond trees, there is plenty of parking when you get to the top, although there is charge for parking its very reasonable.
Also on the way back down if you are interested in old Cars and bikes you can stop off at the Museum of Historical vehicles, which is situated near the popular restaurant El Rui, it has a vast collection of motorbikes and small cars dating back to the 1920’s and up to the 70’s. The restaurant is also worth a visit if you still have an appetite as it serves a wonderful selection of grilled meats cooked on the wood fired BBQ which is situated to the side of the restaurant.
