Old Town Calpe
Old Town Calpe
Calpe is a popular holiday destination and a great place to explore. In the summer months the town is very busy with people shopping, dining or relaxing in cafes and bars. Further up the main high street (Gabriel Miro) you will find yourself walking into the old town, take a delightful stroll through the mazes of narrow streets, multi coloured buildings, amazing architecture and painted murals, stop of in one of the many bars and take a glass of local wine or sangria and indulge yourself in the Spanish way of life.
You will find many unique bars and more traditional Spanish styled restaurants in the old town offering delicious local cuisine and large selection of wines and drinks. Prices are very reasonable throughout they year. The locals are always friendly and enjoy giving advice and chatting. Don’t be shy to chat to the locals as its a great way to pick up a bit of Spanish and learn new things about Calpe.
There are also a couple of small Musuems here in the old town which are interesting.
If you happen to be here for Easter then make your way up to the Old Town in the evenings as they have the Easter parades every night and they are wonderful with the beautiful costumes, its not to be missed. The beginning of December is when they hold the Christmas Market in the old town dates will be confirmed, another event which is not to be missed with arts and craft stalls, donkeys and animals for the children, plenty of food stalls and much more this is usually held over 5 days and has a lovely atmosphere to it, well worth a visit.
You could also take the Tourist Train up to the old town if that hill seems a bit much in the hotter months, you can get this from the fountain at the bottom of town and there is a timetable there so you can catch the train at your convenience. And finally don’t forget the the fruit and veg market is on every Saturday morning and that is definitely worth a visit, to get there click on this link: Saturday Fruit & Veg Market
